Welcome to my fifth grade class! We will be learning many new and exciting things this year based on the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE). This year my instructional focus is ELA. We will dive into the curriculum right away. Students will utilize Canvas to complete assignments and participate in the Accelerated Reading Program. In addition, fifth graders will continue to develop their organizational and writing skills. Please join me on ClassDojo. This serves as a great communication tool between school and home.
This is my fourteenth year teaching 5th grade and my seventeenth year at NES. I have a total of twenty-nine years of teaching experience in both private and public settings; including elementary school, middle school, and special education in Taylor, Peach, Clayton, Crawford, and Houston Counties. I had the honor to serve as Northside Elementary School's 2023-2024 Teacher of the Year.
I have a B.A. in Criminal Justice from Fort Valley State University, a M.Ed in Specific Learning Disabilities, and an Ed.S in Curriculum and Instruction from Georgia College and State University. I have also earned a Gifted In-Field Endorsement and Reading Endorsement. Currently, I am working on my Dyslexia Endorsement. I am a graduate of the 2024 Cohort of the Houston County Teacher Leadership Academy.
I am excited to have this opportunity to work with you and your child. I look forward to building a successful school year together.
