Northside Elementary is a certified STEM School!  The Georgia Department of Education recognizes and supports the critical contributions made by our Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs and schools throughout the state. In an effort to bestow recognition upon those exemplary schools and programs, they offer an opportunity for schools to apply for the Georgia Department of Education State STEM School or Program Certification. State certification involves an application with appropriate documentation, an exploratory visit by state officials, and a final alignment consultation analyzing the documentation and the results of the visit by Department of Education officials.

We at Northside Elementary are dedicated to preparing students for 21st Century workplace careers by providing high quality educational opportunities in STEM fields. STEM represents the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. STEM education encourages a curriculum that is driven by problem solving, discovery, exploratory learning, and student-centered development of ideas and solutions. The saturation of technology in most fields means that all students – not just those who plan to pursue a STEM profession – will require a solid foundation in STEM to be productive members of the workforce.

We also embrace the drive to change STEM to STEAM (http://stemtosteam.org) so as to promote the intellectual and creative processes through the integration of art and design strategies that enhance Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education and innovation.
